Class Description:

This session will review best practices for cataloging print local government documents with RDA. Focusing on monographs, it will cover best practices for descriptive cataloging, access points, and subjects. Many types of local government agencies will be used as examples, including city and county governments, subagencies, committees, and commissions. The course will include examples of local government authors and contributors, issuing and sponsoring bodies, which is a challenging area of cataloging! Attendees will learn how to record funding information and contract and/or accession numbers, especially for titles sponsored jointly by local governments and other governments or associations. Catalogers are often faced with a high percentage of original cataloging with local government documents collections. This session also offers accompanying exercises to strengthen learning.
